习近平总书记强调，研究生教育在培养创新人才、提高创新能力、服务经济社会发展、推进国家治理体系和治理能力现代化方面具有重要作用。近年来，汕头大学理学院始终高度重视研究生人才培养工作，以党建为引领，扎实做好研究生培养过程管理，并继续推进研究生教育工作高质量发展，不断提高研究生教育水平和管理水平，推动研究生教育迈上新台阶，努力为党和国家事业发展培养造就更多高质量人才。
