Abstract:
A signal is a function in a certain function space. The talk will concern adaptive decomposition of signals into fundamental units called mono-components that are boundary values of functions in the Hardy Hp spaces with a certain orientation on the boundary. This is a generalization of Fourier analysis and is called by some mathematicians “a new type of wavelets”. The theory will be based on harmonic analysis and complex analysis of one complex variable. The key words include Hilbert transform, Hardy spaces, inner and outer functions, Nevanlinna class, instantaneous frequency, EMD and IFM.
