Department of Chemistry

Chemistry Department consists of 22 academic staffs, including one Distinguished Young Scholar and one New Century Excellent Talent named by the National Natural Science Foundation and Ministry of Education, respectively. According to the latest data released by Thomson Reuters, STU chemistry ranks among the top 1% of ESI (Essential Science Indicators) International Discipline Ranking of universities and scientific research institutions. In the past 5 years, the department has undertaken more than 40 research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Department of Education of Guangdong Province, local governments and industrial enterprises, of which 6 are key projects. The total amount of funds reaches 25 million Chinese Yuan (ca. $4 million). Our faculties have published around 200 peer-reviewed papers in the prestigious journals, of which more than 50 are in high impact factor journals (> 4). The department also has a very strong commitment to obtaining and maintaining state-of-the-art instrumentation for analysis and spectroscopy. The available instruments include 400 MHz NMR spectrometer, X-ray diffractometers, Raman spectrometer, circular dichroism spectrometer, scanning electron microscope, scanning probe microscope, elemental analyzer, UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometers, FTIR spectrometers, fluorescence spectrophotometers, etc.
